"Art is what you can get away with."

This page is to reflect on and give background information about my recent work and visual journals.

Reflection: "Self Portrait #2"

This project pleases me incredibly, because I mainly did it to demostrate drawind skill, wit use of value, proportion, and emphasis. I feel that I've achieved this goal. It doesn't really have any deeper meaning to it; I simply wanted a strong piece for my portfolio.

Reflection: "The Vivid Life"

When I created this work, I was required to use chalk pastel somewhere in the piece. Being not a very big fan of chalk pastel, I planned not to center my piece around chalk pastel, but water color instead. In all honesty, I expected the piece to turn out awful, because I had no planning or inspiration beforeheand, and I made it up completely on the spot. I'm pleased with how it turned out though, because the colors are very dramatic. They're essential to making this still life interesting.

Refection: "Free As My Hair"

This work means a lot to me; the assignment was a self-portrait. I feel like it's very well done, but it could've been better if I didn't have such an irrationally scarce amount of time to create it. Even though I lacked time, I wanted this project to be a challenge. My main focus was my hair; it's a pivotal part of how people recognize me; it's my favorite thing about myself.

Reflection: "Serenity"

This project is centered around the idea of peace; yes, I realize that a dove is a typical symbol of peace, but I figured peace is often related to the absence of war or disfunction. On the contrary, I wanted this project to be very simplistic and evoke a quiet tone, expressing that peace can be interpreted as peace of mind, rather than the absence of war.

Reflection: "Full Bloom"

For a project inspired by nature, I wanted to convey the boldness and beauty of it, rather than the peaceful or "earth friendly" view. This project took longer than I expected; it was carefully planned and assembled, flower by flower by flower.

Reflection: "Paradise"

I hate the way this project turned out; it isn't the way I planned at all. It's too cartoon style for me. I also dislike the expression of the girl because it takes away from the overall meaning I was trying to portray. The piece was supposed to be about growing up, changing, and finding one's own paradise. It's probably my lease favorite piece I've ever created.

Reflection: Overall Visual Journals

In the V.J. section, I combined my visual journals and altered books. In my altered book, my main focus is fashion. My visual journal consists of random things, such as whatever was on my mind that day.
